GLDD eventually expanded its operations far beyond the Great Lakes, and now around the world, and ceased providing service on the Great Lakes in the 1990s. The company traces its roots back to Chicago in 1890, and changed its name to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock in 1900. Great Lakes Dredge & Dock is the largest provider of marine dredging services in the U.S.
